Whilst visiting the Pebmarsh Show last Sunday(great show by the way),I heard an anouncement that possibly the Kings Head may reopen,I really hope this happens and wish the prospective landlords the best of luck, and look forward to our first visit. If it goes ahead lets make sure we all use it and make it a worthwile venture so that it doesn't happen again!!!!!

Whilst visiting the area of Pebmarsh and surrounding villages over the weekend we drove through the village and noticed the Kings Head being closed and extremely run down. We are looking for a new venture in the licenced trade (having been in the trade for many years) and have been viewing various establishments over the area. For a reason we cannot explain the KH caught our attention and has been on my mind since the weekend. We have trawled the intranet and found your blog. Does anyone know who owns the KH, who is responsible for marketing the sale of it, if for sale at all? Your help would be appreciated.

On reading your comments it is obvious the KH holds a place in your hearts and is crying out to once again become the hub of the community. We hope someone will be able to give us a name, number or even the brewery name that once owned the property. We wait with fingers crossed.

Thank you.

This pub is the heart of the community. It would make a very good B & B with a bar attached. Considering the amount of walkers and cyclists that pass through I am sure it would be used well. At least if it was taken on as a B & B the site would not be lost.

My grandfather ran the pub in the 50s. I was in your neck of the woods last year and had to come and see it. It was sad to find it closed, partly because I could have done with a pint by that point and partly because of the retold memories. Seems like a close friendly community down there.
I run a pub in the north but I will watch progress with interest.

It would be an absolute travesty for Pebmarsh to lose The Kings Head.

From a very young age, I can remember Pebmarsh has always had such brilliant community spirit and has been a place where everyone would pull together.

I am still regularly in Pebmarsh visiting my Grandma and every time I see more and more people whom my Grandma and I do not know - this has never happened before! But without that pub, what opportunities would there be to meet these new neighbours?

At the heart of every village there is that hub, for members of the local community to meet and socialise and keep the community spirit, which has been ever present within Pebmarsh, alive!

Neighbouring villages of Colne Engaine & Lamarsh have shown that village pubs can be sustainable and there is evidently the desire to have the pub back up and running, keeping everything crossed that the heart of the village can be restored.

We lived in Pebmarsh (Hillside) during the 70's/80's and fondly remember The Kings Head for many reasons.
It was a great place for the locals (and the not so locals) to meet for a friendly drink and meal, darts, pool etc. and not forgetting the meals after "Shooting" where we were geeted with a lovely open fire after a cold, wet day over the fields !
We will always remember Susie Daws and her parents, who made everyone very welcome. We had some great laughs !!!!
We came back last year when Kevin & Sharon were Landlords, and it was so nice to still see some of the regulars and remember the "good old days"
Please say that someone will buy it and keep this great British Pub going.

A real pity. My wife and I had our first Valentines Day at Castle Hedingham and then made the first of our many excursions into the Essex countryside looking for this pub, which used to be owned by my wife's ancestors.

We got married at Castle Hedingham in 2004 and every year since we've been back. First with one child and now with two. But without those drives to Pebmarsh with a hopelessly small map, and the annual argument over whether it is left or right at the T-junction, it just isn't the same.

If you were looking for shareholders please get in touch.

Clearly there is significant support for the Kings Head to be re-opened and it would be a crying shame if that did not happen. May I suggest that you contact the villagers of Cold Norton, near Maldon, who have successfully re-opened the Norton pub with a committee of volunteer supporters as the hub of their village. Their experiences would be very valuable. I personally would be most distressed if a happy resolution could not be found, as the King's Head is part of my family history - my grandmother was born there and it was run by her parents and previous to that by her great uncle and his wife (both my great grandfather and his uncle were named Thomas Clark, and were recorded as previous landlords on the board in the pub). As a CAMRA member too, I am very anxious that no further excellent real ale pubs fall victim to developers. I wish you every success in your quest.

I was looking up some Ancestry questions I had and found The Kings Head Pebmarsh This Pub was in the family for about 100 years during the 1800's the publicans were Clark! My Grandmother was the last one and was born there in 1882. We would love to know how we could help save it or maybe buy it. We now reside in Austin TX Maybe someone would have some I ideas . We will keep watching
